DICOM (which stands for “Digital Imaging
and Communication in Medicine”) is a global Information-Technology standard
that is used in virtually all hospitals worldwide.
DICOM 14 relates to the standard in which CRT / Projectors manufactures
conform to a set standard, “Bartens” defining
how displays will show gray scaled images for medical use,
however almost all current models are pre calibrated and can not really be
classed as DICOM compliant, because there is no way of understanding the installation
location or local PACS system. Calibration of projectors for real life
Medical DICOM use must be done on site, taking into account of many ambient
conditions and installation differences, Screens, Light, Size images On
conventional displays without correction of gamma and luminance, white
areas tend to saturate and dark areas tend to simply display as black. This
inability to display subtle shades of gray renders the commercial display
or projector unsuitable for professional applications such as diagnostic imaging.
Canon XEED projectors are calibrated internally using the Built-In Look Up
Tables (LUTs) this provides best conformance and stores the settings
internally so that any Device that is connected to the projector meets
DICOM standards.

Onsite Calibrated XEED Projector
- Screen size
– Calibrating XEED projectors on the actual client screen allows you
to calibrate precisely, taking into account luminance variants which
effect calibration to DICOM standards.
- Screen
material – Screen material effects calibration and preset projectors
have no idea if your client is using interactive whiteboards, front or
rear projection. XEED on site calibration will take into effect screen
type and calibrate to DICOM standards.
- Lighting
conditions – Key to any calibration is to ensure that the projector is
calibrated in the actual conditions the projector is going to be used
in, XEED calibration on site will be the most advanced calibration
available for any projector and will allow you to offer service
contracts to maintain DICOM standards.
